12:40 -1:00 – Txantxangorriak

Txantxangorriak [pronounced Chan-chan-go-ree-ak], affectionately known as Txan Txan, is a Basque music group in Boise, Idaho. Founded in Spring of 2001 with only 8 trikis (Basque button accordions) and 6 panderos (tambourines), the group has grown over the years and taught over 100 members with 4 of the original triki players still as active members and 2 of the original pandero players now as active triki players. The group was founded by Ana Mendiola and Gina Urquidi who were inspired at the 2000 Jaialdi to create a group to not only teach Basque music but also share the Basque culture. They brought in Dan Ansotegui to teach triki and over the years have had a few different pandero teachers with the current instructor being Alaina Gavica.

Txan txan has taken many trips as a group over the years to Folk and Basque Festivals all over the Northwest to help promote our group and culture, make new friends and grow as a community. Some of the places we have traveled to include: Homedale, Idaho; Caldwell, Idaho; Hailey, Idaho; Elko, Nevada; Winnemucca, Nevada; Salt Lake City, Utah; Buffalo, Wyoming; Seattle, Washington

From its founding, the goal of this group has been to teach the love of Basque instruments and music to all eager learners as young as 8 years old. The passion to foster this skill and appreciation for Basque culture has grown each year as singing and dancing were incorporated into the performances as well as the integration of more instruments, such as txalaparta and spoons.

Anyone who has a love of music and wants to join a fun group of people, whether Basque or not, young or old, are welcome. For any and all additional information or questions please contact Olaia Urquidi Beals at 208-871-4668 or by email at urquidibeals90@gmail.com

1:00-1:20 – Rising Stars

Rising Stars was founded in 2010 with the purpose of bringing excellent and cool musical theater education to kids in grades K-12. They use popular music hits – either parodies, adaptations, or the real deal – in their musicals; and many of the plays were written by founders, Kerith and Brian Telestai. Having run programs in Belize, Tanzania, and all over the Treasure Valley, Kerith now runs Rising Stars for Friday Enrichment Programs at Sage International School for K-12th graders during the school year, summer camps for 3rd-12th graders on the stage at Kleiner Park, and private voice lessons for 6th -12th graders. Check out www.IdahoRisingStars for more information and current summer camp registration!

1:20 – 1:40 – Meridian High School’s Cast of “Anything Goes”

“Anything Goes” by Cole Porter, is set on a cruise ship in the 1930’s. Under the direction of theatre teacher, Annie McKinney with choreography by Shannon Peterson and music direction by Barbara Oldenburg, this production was recently produced on the MPAC stage at Meridian High School to the delight of each night. Their Music in the Park performance recreates three of the scenes from this award-winning musical. “Bon Voyage” “Blow, Gabriel, Blow” and “Anything Goes!”

Our classes run Monday-Saturday, including Beginner classes, Advanced classes, Champ classes, team classes, drill class, adult classes, competition classes (including Oireachtas, Nationals and Worlds workshops) and recreational classes for those who want to dance just for fun! We offer it ALL!!

2:00-3:00 – The Capital City Mulligan Band

The Capital City Mulligan Band was originally formed as the Dunkley Music Mulligan Band in February 2010. We started as a small community band for people who used to play instruments in band and wanted to have a second chance — “take a Mulligan” in golf terms. The band is comprised of 50 – 70 active members who enjoy playing at various venues around the Treasure Valley.

Adults of all skill levels are welcome. There are no try-outs. The only requirements are that you are over 18 years of age, can read music, and have had experience playing a band instrument, even if that experience was a long time ago. Three things that band members have in common are that we greatly enjoy rehearsing, making music together, and performing for an audience.

We are pleased to be invited back for the 2nd year to participate in Boise Music Week’s “Arts in the Park.” Sit back and enjoy the Mulligan Band’s music selections. And, “May the Fourth be with you!
