President’s Message – Kent Soelberg

Welcome to Boise Music Week 2025. Since 1919, despite storms, war, pandemic, and economic cycles, we have brought together outstanding musical talent from the Treasure Valley to provide free performances every year to our community – the longest running free musical celebration in the United States. There really is nothing quite like it anywhere else – perhaps because there is nothing quite like the long-standing commitment of our community to encourage, support, and value music and the performing arts. As this year’s President, it is my honor to invite you all to enjoy 11 days of free musical entertainment for all ages, brought to you through the contributions of our many volunteers, generous sponsors, and faithful donors.

In 2007, our son and daughter were in the cast in Boise Music Week’s production of “Beauty and the Beast”. Two years later, I helped move set pieces for “Brigadoon” (which should tell you there is a place for everyone who wants to help!). Eventually, my wife and I were in the chorus for six productions, then we started volunteering as President’s members. After our children left the area, I joined the Board of Directors in gratitude for all it has brought to our family and community.

Our 2025 season starts with the colorful Dance Night (Borah High Auditorium), then continues with our newest event – a Children’s Musical (also at Borah). Returning favorites include – Worship Night (First Presbyterian Church), Children’s Music Series (this year at the Hillcrest Branch of the Boise Public Library), Noon Organ Recitals (St Michael’s Cathedral), Showcase featuring the Boise Philharmonic Master Chorale and the Treasure Valley Concert Band (Borah), All That’s Jazz (South Jr. Auditorium), and the ever-popular Silent Movie/Theater Organ Performance (Egyptian Theater). Our production of the Broadway musical “Fiddler on the Roof” on the Morrison Center stage highlights the importance of deep traditions as our community faces the challenges of an increasingly complex and unsettled world.

School Night now has a different look. To better accommodate school calendars, it is now held in the late fall, with multiple concerts to better feature our choir, band, and orchestra students, all performing in one of the region’s premier venues – the Morrison Center.

All events, locations, times, and dates can be found on our website: www.boisemusicweek.org

Boise Music Week is an ALL-VOLUNTEER organization. There is always a place to help and we hope you will join us. We need volunteers in many capacities – from cast and crew for performances, event chairs and helpers, to set design and construction and event greeters. You may have something we don’t even know we need yet. Getting involved with Boise Music Week is easy, just check out the Volunteer link on our website. You can also contact me personally at kent.soelberg@boisemusicweek.org.

It takes a lot to bring all this free fun to you. Please consider donating to Boise Music Week. We thrive on our support from The Morrison Center Endowment Foundation, and from local corporations and patrons like you. Every donation is appreciated and if you are interested, please click here: DONATE. Enjoy the shows!
